About

“We must use our lives to make the world a better place to live . . . That is what we are put on earth for.” ~ Dolores Huerta

Named the inaugural Brett ’64 and Gwen ’65 Elliott Professor for Interdisciplinary Studies (2018-2023) and the Director of Interdisciplinary Studies (2019-2023), I am an Associate Professor & the Co-chair of Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies (WGSS) and affiliated with Black Studies, Global Health Studies, and Public Humanities.

Sharing ideas in the classroom, mentoring and learning from students, and collaborating with colleagues across disciplinary boundaries to work creatively toward small-scale transformations–that in turn may lead to global innovations in thought and action–is at the heart of why I love being a interdisciplinary teacher-scholar and part of a vibrant liberal arts community.

In addition to writing about gendered violence, women’s health, and feminist-queer pedagogies, I work with colleagues to facilitate curricular transformation at Allegheny, in the Great Lakes region, and nationally.

I love to spend time with my family and friends. In my free time, Dudley and I travel when it is possible and I am slowly learning how to play the bass guitar.
